STAR IN THE NIGHT

 22 Minutes-Black and White

Academy Award Winning short from 1945, directed by Don Siegel, starring J. Carrol Naish, Donald Woods, Warner Brothers

Legendary Director Don Siegel's first directorial effect , This modern version of the Christmas story adds elements of Charles Dickens ' "A Christmas Carol." Three lonely cowboys traveling the desert see a huge star shining in the night. Since it is Christmas Eve, they ride up to the star, only to discover that it is a large sign advertising the Star Motor court, run by Nick Katapoull (J. Carrol Naish). Nick has had plenty of trouble and is disillusioned by the workings of the business world. A tired stranger (Donald Woods) comes to him seeking help, but Nick refuses. His wife, however, still retains her kindness and when a young husband and his wife arrive in critical condition, she makes them comfortable. The fast moving events which follow, soften the heart of Nick and in one of the most touching scenes in the picture, he realizes that this attitude towards him fellow men has been all wrong. A wonderful version of the Three Wise Men and the Babe in the Manger. This short, which won an Academy Award, is a modern day variant on the Nativity, complete with a Scrooge, wonderfully done by J. Carroll Naish. This short was a marvelous vehicle for the veteran actor and he shines in the spotlight. 33 minutes,  Exc. shape,-  $75
